Administrative Offices of Torrance County, Commission Chambers
205 South 9th Street Estancia, NM 87016
Date: Saturday, May 19th, 2018
Time: 9 am to 1 pm
The format is as follows:
Opposed Races: 2 Minute Opening Speech, Questions from Audience, 1 Minute Closing Speech
Un-opposed Races: 5 Minute Speech
The time given for speeches is a limitation, not a requirement. This means if you are in an un-opposed race, you can give a 2 minute speech, it is not required to be a 5 minute speech; but you can not go over 5 minutes and will be stopped. Questions from the audience will be chosen from a basket/hat. The same questions will be given to each candidate from the same race. Leota will be moderating the event. It will also be broadcast on Facebook for those who are unable to attend.
How you can help:
Mayor Ted Hart, Mayor Nathan Dial and myself are bringing cases of water. If we can get some candidates to commit to bringing some snacks for attendees, that would be very much appreciated. Snacks should be limited to non-messy items such as bananas, apples, cookies or other items that have minimal clean-up/waste. If you can let me know if you are bringing snacks, so we can somewhat limit and make sure we do not have too many snacks that will be leftover after the event.
What you need to do:
1.) Email me back (do NOT “Reply-All), and let me know if you will be in attendance or not at the forum. Also include if you can bring snacks and what you would like to bring and how much. (ie: 10 apples)
2.) Show up on May 19th at 10 am and be ready to enjoy a good forum. Play nice! We want this event to be informative, not destructive.
I am super thankful to County Manager Belinda Garland for reserving the room for us and assisting us. I would like to thank the other Mayors for their commitment and help in putting on this forum, as well as Leota for agreeing to moderate and help with the event. Running for public office is not easy, and we appreciate you running. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to call me or email me.
Thank you all,
Mayor of Mountainair
