Public Service Advisory - Burn Scar Flooding Expected

Torrance County Office of Emergency Management has received information that indicates the possibility of flooding in Burn Scar Flooding Areas; this includes the Dog Head Fire Burn Scar. Rainfall and thunderstorms expected this weekend has heightened the risk of flash flooding.

In the event of moderate to heavy rainfall, do not wait for a flash flood warning in order to protect life and property. Thunderstorms that develop over the burned area may begin to produce flash flooding and debris flow before a warning can be issued. If you are in a vulnerable area, please be prepared.

Have an evacuation/escape route planned
Have an Emergency Supply Kit available
Stay Informed before and during any potential event
Be alert if any rain develops. Do not wait for a warning to evacuate should heavy rain develop.
Call 911 if you are caught in a Flash Flood

Contact the Office of Emergency Management at (505) 705-0836 for additional risk information and potential mitigation efforts.
