The 911 Dispatch’s trained and certified personnel receive 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for service and dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical to the citizens and visitors in/to Torrance County, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We dispatch for the following agencies:
Torrance County 911 Dispatch also assists a number of other agencies as well.
We have eleven 911 Dispatcher positions. Uncertified dispatchers start out at $14.35 per hour, which increases to $15.43 after they become a certified Public Safety Telecommunicator at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
The Torrance County 911 Dispatch new hires will be required to go through 30 days classroom training, taught by our qualified instructors. Afterwards they will do on the job training in which they will always work along side other fully certified 911 call-takers/dispatchers for 1 to 10 months. Within the first year they are required to attend the three (3) week New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy Public Safety Telecommunicator course in Santa Fe where they will acquire their state certification.
During the period of on the job training the new hire will be required to obtain several mandatory certifications/licenses such as:
After the new hire becomes certified at the NM Law Enforcement Academy they will be required to continue training throughout the duration of their 911 Dispatch career on many more subjects than those that are listed. Continued training is also necessary to maintain certifications/licenses.
